Datacentrix sets SAB Project Lightyear on road to success

Johannesburg, 14 Nov 2003

South African Breweries (SAB) recently kicked off its newest IT implementation, Project Lightyear, at the Prospecton Brewery in Durban. Datacentrix supplied the IT infrastructure for the project.

Headed by Prospecton`s systems manager, Shannon Castle, Project Lightyear`s main objective will be the complete replacement of the brew house`s server infrastructure, Monitrol applications and PLC code. Lightyear aims to replace the existing system with new products, including Wonderware`s Archestra and Rockwell`s RSBatch, which will run on eight new HP Servers supplied by Datacentrix.

"The name `Lightyear` symbolises a fast-paced project that will navigate uncharted waters of modern technology and will eventually steer the Prospecton Brewery into a new era of automation in brewing," says Castle.

According to Kim Probert, Datacentrix account manager in Durban, Datacentrix`s high level of service, cost-effective pricing and successful track record with SAB were instrumental in clinching its participation in the project.

"Datacentrix boasts HP Platinum Partner status, and is also HP`s largest local partner, both significant factors," she says.

Datacentrix will, adds Probert, also assist with the hardware support, for all software supplied by project systems integrator, Convenient Systems Solutions.
