Datacentrix, IBM relationship update

Johannesburg, 28 May 2004

Infrastructure and IT solutions provider, Datacentrix, has fortified its long-term partnership with IBM, being named as one of a limited number of partners allowed to offer IBM`s high-end eServer xSeries EXA (x445) and BladeCenter servers in SA.

According to Bevan Lock, IBM`s xSeries country manager, Datacentrix is one of IBM`s key local resellers. "One of Datacentrix`s major advantages is its strong enterprise-level focus - the type of customers it deals with are companies that are looking for complete solutions. This makes for a very good fit with IBM`s technology and is particularly relevant to our storage and server offerings.

"Also of benefit is Datacentrix`s wealth of expertise in designing enterprise solutions, rendering the organisation highly capable of handling complex integration projects," he says.

"Our position as one of IBM`s core x-Series partners is significant as it means that we can assist them in growing market share for the x445 and BladeCenter solutions in both larger and mid-sized local corporates," says Dion Visagie, divisional director at Datacentrix.

"IBM`s eServer technology, co-developed with Intel, provides flexible solutions that can react intelligently to customers` changing needs."

Lock adds that the x445 raises the bar for industry-standard servers with its delivery of new levels of scalability, availability and manageability. "The x445 allows companies to start off with fewer processors and scale-up as needed.

"The eServer BladeCenter is a next generation blade server that delivers twice the density of today`s servers, enabling a highly managed infrastructure that helps maximise resource productivity and minimise IT administration costs."

Says Visagie: "The appointment as one of only a handful of x445 and BladeCenter server providers means that Datacentrix can easily differentiate itself within the local marketplace. It also further attests to IBM`s endorsement of our skills and infrastructure."
