Open Text launches online customer community

Johannesburg, 08 Jun 2006

Enterprise content management (ECM) software provider, Open Text Corporation, has announced it is launching an online customer community to provide an open forum where Open Text users can find and share information about ECM software and Open Text technology.

The community site (http://online.opentext.com) brings together all the resources that Open Text provides to customers as well as partners, organised in a way that makes it easy to navigate.

Customers and partners can find a wide range of useful content, including product and training information, organised according to areas of special interest and/or for specific users. The site also includes collaborative tools, such as forums, where each user can post entries and reply to others; and blogs, where specific users will post comments and information on important subjects for comment by the wider community.

"What is special about this customer community is that all Open Text users are invited to participate, not just those who are listed under the service agreement," says Rob Shaw, product marketing manager at Datacentrix.

"Open Text is particularly interested in end-users from the business side and want to give them a useful, easy-to-use, self-service resource that helps them be successful in rolling out Open Text solutions, and in gaining acceptance and adoption by other users. Ultimately, Open Text Online helps customers gain even more value from their Open Text solution."

Plans are also under way to set up the infrastructure for a local site catering for the Open Text SA User Group which would be accessible to all interested individuals and organisations, says Shaw.

Open Text Online is built on the company`s Livelink ECM for Communities of Practice solution, software. Introduced a year ago, Livelink ECM for Communities of Practice provides a central workspace where community members can publish relevant news, share documents, participate in blogs, arrange online meetings and hold Webcasts. The solution also tracks the contributions of participants to help members identify experts in the community on specific subjects.

Open Text Online offers several communities in one site: A general community covering all products and solutions, as well as specialty communities for specific products, industries and the government sector.
