Department of Housing improves performance, focuses on future IT path

Durban, 15 Nov 2006

The Department of Housing has kicked off an enterprise storage project with IT services and solutions provider, Datacentrix, to consolidate and upgrade its existing environment for increased flexibility and manageability.

Says Aaqelah Haq, assistant IT director at the Department of Housing: "We are already seeing better performance as well as improved manageability of data and hope that this project will allow us to embrace the future of IT solutions and keep the department running smoothly."

The department has installed an HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) 4000 and HP Blade Server solution for improved performance and scalability.

"The first phase of the project was to take a look at the department's current infrastructure and put a plan in place to optimise business continuity and create a solution that can grow into our IT demands," explains Haq.

"HP was our brand of choice, as we have used HP products in the past with great success. The solutions selected gave us the ability to use one brand to provide a complete working solution."

Says Shakeel Jhazbhay, account manager at Datacentrix: "The EVA4000 is designed for the data centre where there is a critical need for improved storage utilisation and scalability, offering a high performance, high availability, cost-effective 'virtual' array storage solution. The department also decided to consolidate its servers and allow for growth and expansion by implementing an HP Blade Server solution."

According to Haq, Datacentrix was appointed to commission the project based on the company's wealth of skill within the enterprise space as well as a proven track record in large implementations. "Datacentrix also has a good understanding of our environment and our needs and is able to implement aworking solution to suit our organisation."

Datacentrix is the largest and only value partner and a preferred partner with a direct contract with HP across their entire range of hardware products.
