Datacentrix initiates new strategy

Johannesburg, 19 Apr 2001

The Datacentrix Holdings group has embarked on a strategy to improve the cohesiveness and synergy between the various companies within the group. One of the actions emanating from this strategy is to provide a measure of standardisation in the brand names of the group companies. To date, two such name changes have been implemented:

  • Datacentrix Infrastructure Solutions is the group company that provides infrastructure solutions based on the Intel and Windows/NT platforms to enterprise users. This company is a leading partner for vendors such as HP, IBM, Compaq, Microsoft and Novell.

  • Datacentrix Business Solutions provides Microsoft-based ERP solutions to small and medium-sized enterprise users. The focus of this company is currently on ACCPAC based solutions, but other technologies are also being investigated.

Now, Supported Software is to change its name to Datacentrix Infrastructure Optimisation. This company has a unique offering to enterprise users: they provide solutions that lead to the optimal utilisation of existing IT infrastructure, be this hardware, software or processes. The company currently has a focus in three business areas:

  • Document and data management, particularly in the SAP R/3 environment;

  • Electronic business infrastructure, comprising enterprise data exchange, process integration and mainframe performance management;

  • Enterprise storage solutions, with a specific focus on the systems that manage complex open and distributed storage installations.

"This strategy of standardising on the names of our group companies will have a significant influence on our business" says Gerhard Uys, CEO of Datacentrix Holdings.

"The biggest impact will be on the activities of Infrastructure Solutions and Infrastructure Optimisation . These two companies jointly count the top 80 IT users in South Africa in their customer base. However, neither of the companies has been able to fully benefit from the success achieved by the other. One of the prime reasons for this problem has been that the companies were trading under different names so that no brand recognition or loyalty was achieved. It is our goal to be the partner of choice to enterprise users of information technology. The objective is to provide a broad range of solutions to these IT users. We believe that the re-branding of the company names will make a significant contribution towards achieving our objectives."

According to Leon Theron, the MD of Infrastructure Optimisation, "we have been considering our image for some time now. Initially, it was important for us to preserve an own identity. However, the time is now ripe for sharpening the group focus. It is encouraging that many of our customers have been recommending this change of name. We are very confident that the common branding in the Datacentrix group will have significant benefits to our activities."
