It's that time of the year again and the spirit of giving surrounds us. In its second year, the Intel CommunITy Chest Drive has once more delivered mountains of clothing and stationery to the Salvation Army and the Bosele Dawn Drop-In Centre.
Esquire and a host of partners joined hands in this annual drive to bring light to the poorer communities.
This year the Intel CommunITy Chest Drive collected 3 589 items for charity, almost three times more than the previous year. A total of 67 boxes of items were donated to The Salvation Army and a further four will be handed over to the Bosele Dawn Drop-In Centre in Bela Bela.
Devan Naidoo, Country Manager for Intel South and Sub-Saharan Africa, said: "This year's CommunITy Chest, the second of its kind, proves that we are onto a good thing."
This initiative provides South Africa's IT community with the ideal platform to spread unused promotional items such as clothing, caps, bags and stationery into hands of the less fortunate among us. The charities have also received donations such as computer components and printers, which community centres, schools and training colleges benefit directly from, as such basic necessities are often unaffordable.
Asgar Mahomed, MD of Esquire Technologies, said: "We're pleased to have Esquire involved in a project of this calibre. We're all guilty of collecting old promotional gear that ends up wasted in the back of our cupboards and I couldn't think of a better way to put it to use. The clear success of this drive shows us that people are always willing to give what they don't need, and now I can't wait to see what happens in 2007."
