At the fourth Annual IslamicFinance Business Awards 2009, Asgar Mahomed, Managing Director of Esquire Technologies, was announced as the "Business Person of the Year" at the ceremony on 30 October 2009, in Johannesburg.
The IslamicFinance Business Awards gives Muslim businesses and organisations the opportunity to gain recognition for their excellent contribution towards sustainable economic development in all spheres of society and encourages others to follow these models of best practices.
Business Person of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who has played a key role in developing and growing their business in the past five years, as well as contributing to the upliftment of the community.
Mahomed, in his role as Managing Director of Esquire Technologies, regularly travels overseas visiting international manufacturers, providing its reseller base throughout southern Africa with the largest range of the latest IT and digital lifestyle products, and keeping consumers and businesses abreast with the growth and evolution of technology.
Commenting on the award, Mahomed said: "It's rewarding to see the number of quality and professional Muslim business people being recognised for their contribution in economic growth and empowerment of this country.
"The award goes beyond personal achievement - it is shared by all the stakeholders of Esquire, from customers, vendors and suppliers who have trusted and partnered with us to improve the way we live our lives in southern Africa."
Other awards on the day included the Large Business Entity Award, which saw Esquire Technologies take runner-up in this category.
Mahomed established Esquire in 1999, with his business partner and brother, and the enterprise has grown to be one of the leading distributors of IT components, desktops, notebooks, peripherals and digital lifestyle products to resellers throughout southern Africa.
