M-commerce will be on the rise in 2015

Most online retailers will offer their customers a mobile site in 2015, says Dieter Febel, MD of SA Gateway.

The year 2015 will be the year when most online retailers also offer their customers a mobile site, said Dieter Febel, MD of SA Gateway, one of the leading ISP companies in SA, and the sister company of Esquire Technologies.

Esquire Technologies is an international award-winning company and one of the leading distributors in southern Africa of IT, mobility, digital and consumer lifestyle products from international vendors, with branches in Midrand, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Febel said m-commerce will take off in 2015, when more consumers "go mobile" - shopping here and now. The trend will be instant shopping in the moment. And it is not social media that drives m-commerce, but rather the m-retailers' own marketing, said Febel.

2015 will also be the year of big data. Next year it is expected that e-retailers will intensify their efforts to analyse the customers and their behaviours in order to understand their aims and intentions.

The objective is to provide relevant offers at the right moment to simply become better e-traders.

Another big ticket trend in 2015 is that the consumer is likely to go global. Local consumers all over the globe will discover global, or foreign, Web sites in a significant way, said Febel. They will also spend a larger slice of their online budgets on non-local e-retailers.

Febel is of the opinion that this will manifest in serious challenges to local merchants - but will also create new opportunities for them to sell abroad.
