InX recently attended and gave a lightning presentation at Ruby kaigi 2009, and the event was a massive success.
Upon returning, inX tendered and won a development tender for a branch of the United Nations for Ruby on Rails development.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialised agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.
The IFAD has its local-level operations in 117 countries and territories which keep IFAD in continuous and direct contact with the rural poor.
Ruby on Rails ('Rails' for short) is a Web application framework that greatly streamlines the process of Web development.
Its main advantage is that it favours “convention over configuration”, meaning many of its defaults are what users typically need. This allows them to focus on the design of their Web application instead of the implementation.
Ruby was developed in 1995 by Yukihiro Matsumoto. His goal was to create a language that was “fun” to program with, without getting frustrated with syntax quirks and the like. Ruby is built on the principle of least surprise, meaning things work as expected - like Rails, “convention over configuration”.
InX has been developing software using Ruby prior to the release of Ruby on Rails version 1. Through its continued involvement with the Ruby (and Rails) communities, it has positioned itself as the premier Ruby development company in SA.
It offers hosting for Ruby on Rails and other rack projects, as well as custom-written Ruby software.
The company is very proud to be associated with such a worthy cause and would like to congratulate its development team and primarily its lead developer, Kenneth Kalmer.
