Nclose, FireEye confirm strategic partnership

Johannesburg, 23 Feb 2015

Nclose is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with FireEye, the leader in the field of real-time cyber threat detection.

FireEye protects organisations against the next generation of cyber attacks by deploying a purpose-built, virtual machine-based security platform. In the face of an increasing number of highly targeted cyber attacks that go above and beyond the traditional approaches seen to date, FireEye detects and blocks APTs (advance persistent threats) and zero-day attacks. Both are highly sophisticated forms of attack, and easily circumvent traditional signature-based defences such as next-generation firewalls, IPS, anti-virus, and Web gateways.

Unlike viruses that rely on signature-based logic, the attacks that are emerging with increased frequency often use unsuspecting individuals in organisations as gateways to critical information, customer data and trade secrets.

The FireEye Threat Prevention Platform provides real-time, dynamic threat protection - without the use of traditional signatures. The core of the FireEye platform is a virtual execution engine, complemented by dynamic threat intelligence, to identify and block cyber attacks in real-time.

FireEye has over 3 100 customers across 67 countries, of which over 200 appear on the Fortune 500 list. Customers include enterprises and governments worldwide, with an increasing number located in South Africa. Since 2013, FireEye has been accredited for discovering and blocking 16 of 22 zero-day vulnerabilities (72%) - more than any of its global competitors have been able to achieve!

"Initial tests conducted in the environments of some of South Africa's blue-chip industry leaders revealed a significant number of advanced persistent threats," says Stephen Osler, Nclose director. "These kinds of threats are FireEye's specialty, and we are excited to be able to offer our growing customer base the very best protection against them. FireEye perfectly complements existing malware and anti-virus approaches to provide an effective barrier against this increasing type of attack."

Deon La Grange, Regional Manager SSA, FireEye mirrors Osler's commitment to addressing the advanced threat management vector through this newly announced partnership. "Companies in South Africa and around the globe are facing threats such as these on a daily basis. There have been many high-profile breaches of late and all have turned to FireEye as the recognised leader in this field of defence. Nclose's resource investment in this partnership leaves us feeling confident that the cyber security and safety of customers using FireEye is in good hands."
