Nihilent upbeat about its African success story, with new operations in Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi

Johannesburg, 08 Apr 2014

Nihilent Technologies, an India-based global consulting and solutions integration company, which has a strong presence in the South African region for more than a decade now, announced its expansion in the rest of Africa, including Nigeria, Tanzania, and Malawi.

Nihilent entered the African market at the turn of the millennium through certain key engagements in South Africa, including the country's top four banks, and leading media and entertainment houses like MultiChoice, MNet, SuperSport, DStv mobile, Mail & Guardian among others. At the same time, the company also demonstrated its expertise in other verticals, including healthcare, insurance and government through associations with leading businesses such as Medscheme, Metropolitan Health, Discovery, Santam, SARS, South African Airways, SABC, Guateng Education Department and many more. In addition, Nihilent has been instrumental in helping several product companies in the design and build of software for mobility and payments.

Nihilent has leveraged its deep consulting capabilities - as evidenced by two strategic management patents in South Africa - MC3 for change management and 14 Signals for Strategy by Listening - in several business transformation projects. MC3 has been taught at Wits Business School, as a course, with faculty from Nihilent. The business school has also written case studies of MC3-driven business transformation projects in South Africa, such as STRATE (an electronics and depository company) and Banking Association South Africa (BASA).

With a strong footing in South Africa, Nihilent moved to West and East Africa to create a comprehensive Africa strategy. The company set up its West Africa headquarters in Nigeria and an East Africa base in Tanzania to serve both local customers as well as multinationals from South Africa and other regions. As part of its Africa strategy, Nihilent has partnered with key local experts which would offer their input for operations in each of these countries, which have started on a positive note. In Nigeria, Nihilent has signed an MOU with NITDA to create a framework for e-governance awards and recognition programme, and provide training and development around IT skills, while talks are also on with banks to implement quality frameworks such as CMMI, ITIL, ISO as per the directive by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In Tanzania, Nihilent has designed a five-year strategic plan for the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), which was acknowledged by the Reserve Bank Governor of Tanzania as one of the best to have been presented. Nihilent also helped a leading local bank to improve its banking processes and services using Lean and Six Sigma. The company also recently acquired an IT company in Malawi, which is part of a financial services group offering banking and insurance services, for whom it built IT applications developed locally.

In the coming days, Nihilent will look at strategic acquisitions while continuing to deliver on the assignments and help answer business questions.
