HP TippingPoint leads the way in latest NSS Labs NGIPS Group Test

HP TippingPoint Next Generation IPS first to be evaluated and pass new 2012 test methodology.

Johannesburg, 14 Mar 2012

HP recently announced that HP TippingPoint has completed the most recent Network Intrusion Prevention IPS Group Test.

NSS Labs tested the flagship HP TippingPoint 6100N Next Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) with real-world traffic mixes and multiple exploit attack and evasion techniques.

The HP TippingPoint 6100N NGIPS delivered 100% coverage against all evasions and attack techniques out of the box with no additional tuning. In addition, 88% of exploits were blocked with no tuning. When tuned, the HP TippingPoint IPS blocked over 91% of exploits successfully. Measured against a real-world mix of traffic, the HP TippingPoint 6100N delivered 10.7Gbps of inspected throughput.

The results of the testing prove that HP TippingPoint continues to pioneer Network Intrusion Prevention and establish its market leadership in NGIPS. The HP TippingPoint 6100N is the first IPS that NSS Labs has tested and approved as part of its 2012 IPS Group Test.

“For multi-gigabit environments looking to upgrade defences from their current IPS, the HP TippingPoint 6100N TOS 3.2.2 provides excellent protection,” said Vikram Phatak, CTO of NSS Labs. “HP has demonstrated significant improvements in protection, and has passed all evasion, stability and leakage tests with an excellent blockage rate. In addition, the HP TippingPoint management system was easy to use and powerful, making it ideal for use in enterprise organisations or multi-tenanted environments such as service providers. Tuning and maintenance is simple and well thought-out, making it a good choice for almost any environment.”

What differentiates HP TippingPoint from the pack?

In addition to industry-leading NGIPS solutions, HP TippingPoint delivers intelligence research through HP DVLabs. The HP DVLabs team defines, develops and delivers NGIPS security services, including Reputation DV, Application DV, Web Application DV, Digital Vaccine Toolkit, and Digital Vaccine filter service. When combined with the HP TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS) and ThreatLinQ security portal, organisations get instant visibility into the global threat environment, along with integrated event data, resulting in better policy decision-making, better device management, and a better security posture for their networks.

“As HP continues to innovate in the network security space, independent validation of our solutions is critical,” said Chris Schaaf, Regional Sales Manager, sub-Saharan and South Africa, HP. “The outstanding independent test results of our recommended and tuned policy settings show that the HP TippingPoint IPS product, backed by our industry-leading HP DVLabs security intelligence and research organisation, provides customers the assurance that their organisation is protected.”

“HP TippingPoint have, for the last seven years, been the leaders in the IPS space, and the latest NSS tests shows that they have not lost their ability to lead the way,” says Wayne Olsen, Product and Technology Director at SecureData. “With HP DVLabs and the ability to inspect, classify, clean and deny malicious traffic at true Multi-Gigabit speeds, HP TippingPoint should be the first choice for organisations when looking at an Intrusion Prevention System,” he adds.
