Procter & Gamble (P&G), one of the world's largest FMCG and consumer goods companies, has appointed Service Parts Logistics (SPL), Africa's largest IT parts distributor, to handle all of its key parts, components and consumables locally.
SPL is now P&G's exclusive agent and distributor of Proctor & Gamble's Braun and Oral-B spare parts portfolio. This represents another foray for SPL into the consumer and white-goods arena, where it is currently reseller of TV panels, mobile phone and tablet screens and spares, appliance parts and air conditioning spares. SPL's traditional business is rooted in the IT industry, where it is the authorised parts channel for HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Fujitsu, Acer, and Toshiba, among others.
As Africa's largest IT parts distributor, SPL's reputation for customer service and for delivering on very short lead times in the IT and appliances spares business was critical in P&G's decision. SPL's sales team deals directly with P&G customers, supplying them with the Braun and Oral-B parts they need with a full-service offering, including delivery throughout southern Africa.
Braun is the universal market leader in its core category of foil shavers, epilators and hand blenders among many others. Braun also consists of a Satin hair range that provides synergistic opportunities with other hair care brands such as Pantene/Salon professional and Wella. Braun also consists of small household appliances as well as clocks and watches.
The Oral-B brand is the international leader in the over $5 billion oral brushing market and is also part of the Proctor & Gamble company since 2006. Oral-B manual toothbrushes are used more by dentists than any other oral brand and lead the power segment of the market.
More than half of all product innovation coming from P&G today consists of at least one major element from an external partner - not least in their logistics and service parts planning, as attested by SPL.
