Business skills training a winner once again

Johannesburg, 21 May 2004

The People Business business skills programme has once again been hugely successful at Compuware. Twelve students graduated from the STEP Academy on Friday after presenting to Compuware business partners and members of the press.

The STEP Academy is part of Compuware`s black economic empowerment strategy. The STEP Academy concept, which started last year, involves selecting 12 appropriate candidates for three months of intensive software testing and business skills training, and extends to provide interns with accommodation, meals and clothing.

The People Business - People Development is the exclusive supplier of the business skills training.

"It is such a wonderful reward training these individuals and then preparing them for their presentations at the end of the Academy. It is an intensive 10-day course where we cover everything from business etiquette, interviewing skills and basic financial principles to basic economics and organisational structure. The last two days of the programme are dedicated to business communication skills and all the students are trained on presenting themselves and their ideas, with the graduation function in mind," Jenny Senneck, People Development Manager explains.

The aim of integrating business skills training with the technical training is to aid these youngsters in understanding the world of business and make them more employable.

Sudheer Rugbeer, one of the students, believes the business skills training has given him the confidence to face the corporate world and that it was a great experience. "I think this programme has covered all aspects on business and everyday life," he states.

"My listening and communication skills have improved and I now know how to prepare for interviews," says Cornelia Radebe, another student who has just graduated from the Academy. "This programme is a necessity for everyone and with the skills I believe I am a better person."
