E-learning helps Nestl'e develop new generation of leaders

Johannesburg, 06 Aug 2004

As part of its global `Develop People` programme, Nestl'e has partnered with SkillSoft to provide an intuitive e-learning programme to Nestl'e staff.

The e-learning programme, currently being rolled out to Nestl'e companies, includes over 70 courses and simulations mapped to support the Nestl'e Leadership Framework behaviours. Key topics include leadership, communication, teamwork, creativity, innovation, networking and customer service. The courses are available in English and French - Nestl'e`s corporate languages - and others such as Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German.

Also available is the opportunity to access all of SkillSoft`s business skills courses and thousands of books, provided through Books24x7, SkillSoft`s online referenceware subsidiary. All content is available through a hosted SkillPort site, providing the global reach required by Nestl'e.

The e-learning programme has been implemented to help Nestl'e`s employees across the globe develop the management and leadership skills they need to take on the increasingly competitive challenges of the markets in which Nestl'e operates.

As Nestl'e grows through acquisition and evolves from a traditional, hierarchal organisation into a flexible, networked organisation, one of its biggest on-going challenges is to standardise processes and encourage the sharing of best practice. Consequently, an important aspect of the `Develop People` programme is to begin to change the `behaviours` of Nestl'e employees, to enable them to be effective in the new culture the company is creating.

Within the Nestl'e companies subscribing to the SkillSoft library, all content is available to employees with access to a PC and has been mapped clearly against defined behaviours. To reinforce the initiative, SkillSoft and Nestl'e have developed a global support strategy to ensure that the messages and direction set centrally are consistent and supported in Nestl'e`s local markets.

Commenting on the programme, Kevin Young, Managing Director of SkillSoft, EMEA said: "We are delighted to be working with Nestl'e globally on such a critical programme which gives Nestl'e employees around the world the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in line with what the organisation needs. All the required behaviours and competencies have been mapped to the e-learning content available, so all employees can quickly and easily identify what training they need to be successful in the organisation as it evolves."

SkillSoft is represented in SA by Laragh Skills, which is working with the company in implementing the programme throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
