The 2005 edition of the Corporate Research Foundation`s (CRF`s) "South Africa`s Most Promising Companies" list is dominated by ICT companies.

The list and book of the same name were launched in Sandton today and feature the likes of Accenture, African Legend Indigo, Digital Healthcare Solutions, eBucks, Fireworkx Internet, M-Web, nVisionIT, Syspro and UUNet SA. Eleven of the 21 Most Promising Companies listed were ICT companies.

CRF project manager Amelia Walton said the companies were not listed according to their level of excellence, but put in the book primarily because they were nominated and met the criteria for inclusion in the publication.

Eight of the 24 most promising entrepreneurs were ICT companies - among them Africa Vukani Investment, ATM Solutions, Black Rage Productions and Big Media.

Walton added that the series of books recognises companies that are actively striving to grow their businesses in sometimes harsh business conditions.

"The inclusion of two entrepreneurial sections highlights the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in SA, the companies and individuals that were featured in them have accepted the risks these processes involve, and are building companies that will be nurtured and encouraged to grow in the local economy," she said.

One of the organisations involved in the entrepreneurial section is the Brightest Young Minds, a national students` organisation that selected 22 entrepreneurs and will provide them with exposure to business in SA.

The other group named in this section is the Businesswoman`s Association, which represents the importance of women entrepreneurs in SA.
