The final draft of the ICT industry`s empowerment charter is to be released today.

The release, initially scheduled for tomorrow, follows a last-minute round of meetings by the ICT empowerment charter steering committee and industry players during the past week.

The committee said on Friday that consensus had been reached on all of the outstanding charter issues, and that the final draft would be discussed in a series of meetings with ICT industry sub-sector representatives later this month.

The steering committee will release the final draft at a media briefing in Sandton today.

Joe Mjwara, chairman of the steering committee, said earlier that the final draft would also be posted on the ICT charter Web site, "opening doors for industry players to give comment".

Mjwara noted that cabinet would still need to approve the charter, after which it would be published in the government gazette.
