Records management crucial to good IT governance

Johannesburg, 17 May 2005

IT governance consists of a broad range of activities that range from IT funding, upgrading ERP systems, determining technical direction to managing data and retaining records of business activity.

Few companies understand the importance of record management to their businesses, or the risks from inadequate solutions. Not surprising as many have been misguided by inexperienced e-business lawyers and vendors selling inappropriate solutions.

Organisers of the next IT Governance Forum have invited international records management expert Dr Bruno Wildhaber to discuss this topic at the forum. The IT Governance Forum is to be held from the 6 - 7 June at the VW Conference Centre in Midrand and it will include a range of speakers discussing a range of topics.

Dr Wildhaber has assisted a number of global companies including the Swiss financial giant UBS. He will be joined by Lance Michalson from SA`s record management expert, the Forest Group. They will discuss key issues about records management relevant to South African enterprises and open the discussion up to the delegates to ask questions that they might have on the topic. Would you agree that "e-mail presents more risks to business than it provides benefits"!

Peter Hill, managing director of Info Sec Africa, the organiser of this event, says the forum will enable delegates to participate in the discussions and obtain answers to questions they may have. IT governance is new topic and the forum will help provide practical solutions to the many issues that need to be addressed by enterprises who are seeking to get better value from their investments in information technology while managing the ever-increasing risks inherent in using information technology.
