Brigette Petersen, CEO of Lesedi Corporate Technology, received the 2005 Businesswomen`s Association (BWA) - Regional Business Achiever Award for the corporate category during a function held in Bryanston last week.

Lesedi Corporate Technology, created in 1995, is an ICT solutions service provider. The company was also recently named among the Impumelelo Top 300 BEE Companies in SA.

"It`s quite an honour to receive the award, especially as a woman in the ICT sector, which is male-dominated. I hope this award will set a good pace for other women to follow," says Petersen. "My enthusiasm for the industry is the reason I made it this far."

Petersen notes that women have a far greater role in IT than at administration level.

Additional winners were:

* Jenneth Pinsloo, owner of Plantwise, a horticultural specialist, won the entrepreneur category.
* Angela Barter, owner of @Communications, a PR consultancy, won the start-up category.

The Johannesburg Regional Achiever Awards judges presented an Ambassador Award to Tanya Fourie for her work in bringing the 2004 Women`s Golf World Cup to SA and helping to raise a budget in excess of R20 million for the event.

The Regional Business Achiever Award, which started in 2001, is held at eight BWA branches across the country. The award honours entrepreneurial women in four categories: start-up, corporate, entrepreneur and professional. There were no nominees for the professional award in the Johannesburg region.

The BWA, sponsored by Nedbank, says it is the largest association of business and professional women in SA. It was formed in 2000 after a merger of three organisations: the Executive Women`s Club, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Professional Women`s Leadership Development Organisation.
