Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Johannesburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) will sign a sponsorship agreement at Wits University today.

The sponsorship, worth over R2 million, provides for TCS to bring software engineering lecturers from the TCS training academy in India to the JCSE for two years.

According to Prof Barry Dwolatzky, academic director of the JCSE, "bringing these lecturers to SA will make a significant contribution towards the development of high-level skills in the local software development sector".

Dwolatzky says TCS has a lot of experience and expertise in training world-class software engineers, as the academy trains thousands of recruits from across the globe and boasts a 54 000-strong team of software consultants.

Lecturers brought in through the sponsorship will support the JCSE`s educational programmes aimed at promoting best practice in software engineering and creating a pool of talent that would service the country`s needs, he says.

TCS has implemented a large Oracle project for Wits University, spanning human resources, finance and student administration.

Wits vice-chancellor Prof Loyiso Nongxa and N Chandrasekaran, TCS executive VP and head of global operations, will sign the sponsorship agreement.
