Burglars made off with PCs and servers in a break-in at the Black IT Forum`s (BITF`s) offices in Randburg this morning.

Mthunzi Mdwaba, BITF Gauteng chairman and MD of Torque IT, believes it was a "malicious anti-transformation" attack.

He says a rock was used to break the door and gain entry into the building, and all the hard drives and servers were stolen, leaving behind only PC monitors. The police are at the scene conducting investigations.

Mdwaba says it`s believed that someone was trying to get their hands on certain sensitive information. He says one of the people working at BITF has also received death threats.

"We are not sure, but we believe this was a malicious anti-transformation attack, disguised as a break in. The person knew that, there`s some sensitive information, and they went after it," he says.

"In the last few months we`ve been working on some sensitive information to transform the organisation. Among other things, one of the operatives has received death threats via a bogus e-mail. We are busy with investigations to find who is behind the e-mails.

"At this present moment we are not able to determine the extent of the damage, but the police are at the scene and they will later take fingerprints as well as gather other possible information to try find who was behind all this," he says.
