New Jo`burg CIO declines the post

The individual selected for the office of CIO at the city of Johannesburg has declined the position, according to city spokesman Virgil James.

"The successful applicant [who may not be named] subsequently withdrew, after initially accepting the position," he says.

"We can`t say why he withdrew - we can only speculate that maybe he has got a better offer," he adds.

Five candidates were short-listed for the position, which was narrowed to three before the final selection.

Re-advertised

The post was then re-advertised about two weeks ago, James explains, adding that the city will again go through the selection process.

He says the application period for the post would likely close soon, although he was unable to determine the exact date.

"It is important for us to find a suitable candidate as soon as possible."

James describes the salary package for the city`s CIO as "competitive".

For the interim, Patrick Mayaba, GM of information management at City Power, will remain the acting CIO, he notes.

The previous CIO (also known as director of information management and technology), Heather Fuller, resigned in November last year, having completed less than half her 12-month contract.
