Ntsundeni Madzunya, CIO of the South African Post Office (SAPO), has resigned, says Twiggs Xiphu, group executive of corporate services at SAPO.

According to a statement released by SAPO, discussions between the two parties ended in a mutual agreement that Madzunya's fixed-term contract, which would expire in 2008, would be terminated immediately.

As CIO of SAPO, Madzunya was involved in the development of the organisation's biometric payment system, upgrading its banking system, its electronic bulk mail delivery note system and the electronic bill presentment and payment system.

He also headed up SAPO's technology infrastructure consolidation programme. In November 2005, he was named Computer Society of SA's IT Personality of the Year.

Contents of the agreement cannot be disclosed, says Xiphu. Madzunya could not be reached for comment.

It is not known, at this stage, who will be appointed to replace Madzunya.
