SAPO recruits Madzunya's replacement

The South African Post Office (SAPO) is looking to the private sector as part of its recruitment drive to replace CIO Ntsundeni Madzunya, who resigned last month.

Siphiwe Radebe, one of four general managers at SAPO, is standing in for Madzunya while the position is being publicly advertised.

Madzunya's fixed-term contract, due to expire in 2008, was terminated with immediate effect on 15 May, after discussions between the two parties ended in mutual agreement.

An extensive and broad recruitment process is in place and potential candidates are also being headhunted from the private sector, says Twiggs Xiphu, group executive of corporate services at SAPO. No specific candidate has yet been identified, he says.

"Despite Madzunya leaving, we are an ICT entity within the communications ministry and will continue with projects like expanding the network, infrastructure, the commissioning of new points of sale and resource planning projects."

SAPO CEO Khutso Mampeule will decide who succeeds Madzunya, although there may also be a panel, which will include at least two members of the board, involved in the process, depending on the qualifications of the candidate, says Xiphu.

He adds that the potential incumbent might not necessarily have an IT background, but could have expertise in other areas, such as project management.

It is hoped a candidate will be selected within the next two months, depending on availability, he notes.
