ContactinGauteng, the membership association for the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector and call centres in Gauteng, secured over a third of the national awards at the South African Contact Centre Community (Sacccom) BPO Industry Awards 2006.

Over the past year, the industry has experienced considerable growth, ensuring additional job creation and upskilling of entry-level individuals, says ContactinGauteng CEO Keryn House.

"This achievement is important for the transformation and growth of the call centre industry in Gauteng - the industry has shifted from a fragmented polarised industry a year ago, to a focused and internationally recognised investment opportunity for global companies aspiring to establish a footprint in southern Africa," she adds.

This year's national award results, House says, have reflected an exceptional level of innovation and dedication to customer service, and to increasing black economic and gender economic empowerment.

This year's five ContactinGauteng national Sacccom award winners are:

* Non-technological innovation of the year award: Circle & Square, Absa & Emmanuels
* Best outbound campaign of the year: O'Keeffe & Swartz
* Design and ergonomics award: FNB contact centres
* Customer excellence award - large contact centre: Direct Channel Holdings
* Supervisor of the year award: Deorah Narainsammy, Standard Bank.
