SA infosec professionals complete IRCA ISO 27001 Lead Auditor training

Johannesburg, 19 Jan 2007

NextGen Training Solutions (Pty) Ltd (www.nextgen.co.za), a South Africa based training and consulting organisation focusing on information security and technical training, has successfully conducted an IRCA ISO 27001 Lead Auditor training programme in association with Bureau Veritas, a French certification agency with operations in 145 countries globally. In this first ever program in the South African region, six South African nationals were certified.

NextGen's security consulting arm, which focuses on managed security services and consulting services, has become a pioneer in introducing top of the line information security training programmes in South Africa.

In October and November 2006, NextGen certified more than 10 information security professionals from South Africa on Certified Vulnerability Assessor (cVa) from DNV, a Norway-based certification agency, in association with Secure Matrix.

"NextGen has till now trained senior professionals in Information Security from organisations like Dimension Data, Telkom, Cell C, MWeb, Eskom, Motorola, ABSA, UCS Solutions, apart from other Government Departments in South Africa and these professionals are our ambassadors of 'Quality' to the industry" said Mr Sumit Garg, Head of Business Development, NextGen.

NextGen focuses on managerial and techno-managerial training programmes in the Infosec arena. Some of the training programmes which have been well received by the leading companies in South Africa are:

1. IRCA ISO 27001 Lead Auditor
2. Certified Vulnerability Assessor (cVa) from DNV
3. ISO 20000 - IT Service Management Consultant

With the increase in external and internal threats, business continuity, disaster management and internationally benchmarked security controls and processes will be at the forefront in South Africa in 2007. The companies are under constant pressure on aligning policies to the needs of the business today and maximizing returns on investment. The companies and the professionals will therefore have to be proactive to bridge the skills divide of certified individuals capable of performing more complex and internationally standardized processes.

Security certifications will be vital in coming days while companies will be hiring professionals in South Africa. "There is a need of these kinds of certification programmes where an international agency is certifying professionals on vendor independent security technologies and processes. This will not only raise the standard of the information security practice but will also assist more and more individuals going through a set qualification path in SA" said Mr Garg.

The next training programmes are scheduled from March 2007 and professionals can get in touch with NextGen Training Solutions (Pty) Ltd for more information.
