Professional services company, Ernst & Young, has launched its 10th Global Information Security Survey (GISS) and is urging all South African companies to participate.
The survey is valuable to participating companies that continuously seek to improve their security programmes and would like to benchmark their initiatives against identified threats, says Ernst & Young. One of the aims of the survey is to raise awareness about information security as a board-level issue.
The company says information security is increasingly recognised as a driver of business improvement, and companies need to do more to improve their information security posture in the globalised business environment, where the largest opportunities also carry the greatest risks.
Developed with input from global information leaders to focus on what matters most to participants, the survey allows participants to compare their organisation with global companies on important information security issues. It enables companies to gain insights to make key decisions, as well as providing important information to build a business case for information security.
The 2006 GISS found more than half of the participants had yet to take steps to integrate information risk management into their overall risk management activities, while 40% indicated they were not reporting information security issues to their board of directors and business unit leaders on a regular basis.
