Tata Steel reviews Corus

Tata Steel has decided to review Corus' corporate governance structure, says The Financial Express.

The Indian steel major is currently executing an integration programme at Corus. "We are reviewing Corus' corporate governance structure following its acquisition," sources in Tata Steel said. The initiative is part of the integration of Corus' operations with Tata Steel.

"The initiative has been suspended in order to ensure alignment with the policies and procedures of Tata Steel. This work is, therefore, now an objective for later in 2007," the official said.

Family rift at Viacom

Sumner Redstone, the chairman of both Viacom and CBS, took aim at his daughter Shari, who had been widely expected to succeed him, in a letter faxed to Forbes magazine, according to Market Watch.

The article quoted people familiar with Shari's thinking as saying she had had differences with her father over corporate governance issues, including Shari's effort to tie executive compensation more closely with financial performance.

"While my daughter talks of good governance, she apparently ignores the cardinal rule of good governance that the boards of the two public companies, Viacom and CBS, should select my successor," Redstone wrote in his letter, which Forbes posted on its Web site.
