UK businesses prepared

British businesses are better prepared for key IT risks than their foreign counterparts, with eight out of 10 having proper records in place, says ComputerWorld.

According to a survey by Grant Thornton, covering 32 countries, about 80% of UK businesses have preparations in place for IT security breaches, and documentation to cover business continuity and disaster recovery.

More than 77% of UK businesses have the documentation in place to prepare for a major IT failure or disaster recovery scenario, ahead of the survey's EU average of 57% and a global average of 61%

XiloCore, Asigra partner

Asigra and XiloCore have partnered to provide a new suite of business continuity solutions designed for value-added resellers and managed service providers in the US and Canada, reports ComputerTechnologyReview.

The new XiloCore multifaceted offerings, which integrate Asigra's backup service software platform, Televaulting, allow resellers to deliver data archiving solutions with the use of tiered storage strategies.

The solution also provides small and medium businesses with service level agreements, recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives.

Online assessment tool helps firms

Business continuity and disaster recovery plans and systems can now be tested using an online assessment tool, developed by BSI British Standards, reports MCS Solutions.

Business Continuity Assessment Online uses 191 questions and multiple choice answers covering every aspect of the BS 25999-1 Business Continuity Management Code of Practice, to find out where organisations are doing well and what improvements need be made.

Mike Low, director of BSI British Standards, says completing the online assessment will help manufacturers to develop an understanding of the principles of business continuity management.
