The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) has appointed Michelle Williams as CIO. Williams was also recently appointed to the State IT Agency`s board of directors.

She takes over from projects chief director Patty Tlagadi, who was appointed acting CIO following the departure of CIO Romi Barjaktarevic about a year ago.

Prior to joining the DPSA, Williams was a programme director of World Cup 2010 for Siemens.

In that position, she coordinated Siemens` portfolio on major event infrastructure across most of the organisation`s business units. These included ICT and communications, building technologies, airports, transportation systems, medical facilities and power.

Williams has also worked for the Department of Communications, the education policy unit at the University of the Western Cape and the Bernard van Leer Foundation in The Hague.

She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Bond University and a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies.
