Future, Cisco talk RFID

The Future Group, which owns Pantaloon Retail India, is set to tie up with Cisco Systems to implement radio frequency identification (RFID) technology across all its retail formats in India, says Market Watch.

The companies are in advanced talks and an agreement is expected to be reached later next month.

The investment in RFID technology will be made through Future Knowledge Services, which is a Future Group company specialising in high-end analytics. This will be Asia's largest RFID implementation mandate.

India rail gets ticket machines

Southern Railway will provide 455 automatic ticket vending machines in 191 stations in a phased manner during 2008 to 2009, reports The Hindu.

The first batch of machines would issue tickets for suburban rail commuters. Smart cards can be used to purchase the tickets.

Passengers can select the destination by making a choice on the touch-screen. The procedure is similar to drawing cash from an ATM.

Tax returns get faster

Missourians can expect speedy tax returns again this year and can expect them to come even sooner than last year, says MissouriNet.

The most important recent innovation in tax return filing has been electronic filing, which the Department of Revenue encourages; however, there is a new way Missourians can file their taxes using paper while maintaining efficiency.

"We encourage you to file electronically, absolutely," says David Griffith, with the Department of Revenue. "There's also, on our Web site, an opportunity for you to use what's called the 2D bar code form."
