The Datatec group this morning informed investors that its chairman, Leslie Boyd, has died after a short illness.

Boyd was planning to retire from the board after the group's AGM in August, at which point he was to be replaced by deputy chairman Stephen Davidson.

Davidson has, therefore, stepped into the role with immediate effect.

According to the official Datatec announcement, Boyd became chairman of the board on 6 December 2001.

He was, among other things, responsible for establishing the board's independent committees, promoting best corporate governance practices, and establishing accountability at all levels of the organisation.

Davidson joined the board on 1 February 2007 and has since served as deputy chairman.

He is also chairman of SPG Media Group, Enteraction TV, Digital Marketing Group, as well as non-executive director of Inmarsat and EBT Mobile China.
