Aitec Africa is to host a banking technology conference from 7-8 May, at the Eko Hotel, in Lagos, Nigeria.
The conference aims to provide the West Africa's banking community with in-depth briefings from African and international experts and allow them to assess latest banking technology, says Aitec Africa chairman Sean Moroney.
According to Gartner's forecasts in 2006, mobile payments are the key to opening the bank doors to 15% of the three billion unbanked people by the end of this year.
By 2010, 50% of mobile operators in emerging economies will support mobile payment and banking services and act as essential partners for retail banks in those regions, the analyst firm says.
The theme for this year's conference is "Competing in a Borderless World".
Expected participants include CEOs, COOs and CFOs, ICT managers and professionals in the banking and financial services sector, policy-makers, as well as innovators and service providers active in the financial services sector.
Telecoms operators and service providers, as well as NGOs/civil society organisations directly involved with delivering banking are also invited to attend.
This week, AITEC has held a similar conference in East Africa. More than 70 industry experts made presentations at this event, Moroney says.
