Hotels need convergence

According to Guy Roukaerts, moderator of the recent The Hotel Show Seven Star conference which took place in Dubai, hotels that make additional charges for guests to access the Internet or fail to provide easy audio and TV access for portable devices such as iPods and MP3 players could lose out, says AME Info.

Visualising the future and preparing now for the needs of today's more technology-demanding guests came under the spotlight at the conference which forms part of the premier supplies show for the Middle East hospitality sector.

Convergence and the need for hotels to "wire up" to meet the technology of their guests was a theme of several presentations.

ACT chooses Irdeto

Irdeto inked a deal to deliver its latest digital video broadcasting (DVB) conditional access system to Bangalore-based multi-system operator Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), says TV next.

The phased roll-out of the Irdeto solution will be completed over a 30-month period. The deployment of Irdeto's technology is part of the operator's aggressive plans to migrate its analogue cable customers to its new digital platform.

ACT was established to bring cable TV, Internet, data and other broadband services to residential customers through cable networks.

Kincon is coming

Korea IT Network (KIN), a premier network for entrepreneurial opportunities between Korea and Silicon Valley, is hosting its annual conference, Kincon 2008, on 17 June at the Santa Clara Convention Centre in Santa Clara, California, says News Blaze.

With the theme of "consumer and technology convergence", this year's two-day conference will bring together IT professionals, senior business leaders, government officials, venture capitalists (VCs) and academics to discuss how consumers are shaping the future of the industry by tapping into the latest technology devices and Web 2.0 services.

Some of the panels at the conference will discuss topics such as mobile micro payment, location-based service, gaming, social networking, online gaming, IPTV, US and Korea VC investment, and the home of the future.
