Cameroon gets ICT centre

The Chantal Biya Centre for Information and Communication Technologies was inaugurated on 14 June, at the Nyong neighbourhood of Abong-Mbang in Cameroon, says allAfrica.com.

Christine Solange Le represented the First Lady during the inauguration ceremony, which was marked by the awarding of certificates to the first batch of women trained at the centre.

The 150 women, who received attestations, were trained by personnel from the African Institute of Computer Sciences within the "operation 100 000 women in ICTs by 2012".

Nigeria, Google strike deal

A Nigerian-based Internet branding services provider, TodaysNigerians.com, has entered into strategic partnership deals with global search engines Google, Yahoo, AOL and MSN, aimed at branding successful Nigerians and icons on the net, says allAfrica.com.

Executive director of the firm, Kamal Abiodun, who confirmed the relationship in an interview with newsmen, said the deal would bring up the best of Nigerians on the Web portal whenever a search is made on them on the Internet.

According to him, "Our ready-to-go extra platinum services of Google cleansing of negative misrepresentations, international event coverage are unique media services that make TodaysNigerians.com platform membership a combination of branding, media services, limited IT outsourcing and total Internet service."

Globacom goes to Ghana

Globacom's intention to capture the West African telecoms market moved closer to fruition yesterday with the acquisition of a licence to operate a mobile cellular service in Ghana, says allAfrica.com.

A letter to the management of Globacom dated 12 June by Ghana's telecommunication regulatory authority, the National Communications Authority (NCA), said its board of directors declared Glo Mobile winner of the international contest for a mobile cellular licence in Ghana.

NCA apparently congratulated Globacom for the feat, adding that it looked forward to the telecoms giant's contributions to the development of Ghana's ICT industry.
