Ernst & Young audits security

Professional services company Ernst & Young is urging SA companies to take part in its 11th Global Information Security Survey (GISS).

The company says the survey allows participants to compare their organisation with global companies on important information security issues.

"It enables companies to gain insights to make key decisions, as well as providing key information to build a business case for information security," Ernst & Young says in a press release.

It adds that the 2007 survey showed that Information security was "too isolated from executive management and the strategic decision-making process, nearly one-third (32%) never meeting with their board or audit committee."

The 2006 GISS found that more than half of the participants had yet to take steps to integrate information risk management into their overall risk management activities, while 40% indicated that they were not reporting about information security issues to their board of directors and business unit leaders on a regular basis.

The survey, that takes about 35 minutes to complete and that is due by Monday, 4 August, can be obtained from Sarah Custers at Sarah.Custers@za.ey.com
