Hospital tags children

RF Technologies, a provider of radio frequency identification monitoring systems and healthcare monitoring solutions, has installed its Safe Place Paediatric and Infant Security Solution at ProHealth Care's Waukesha Memorial Hospital, to help protect infants and children from abduction, states Market Watch.

A lightweight transmitter, which is placed around a child's ankle or wrist, allows the staff to monitor the child's whereabouts within the protected area.

The transmitter sends a signal to receivers placed throughout the hospital. If the band is tampered with or if the infant or child is too close to a doorway, an alarm will sound and hospital doors immediately lock down.

ZocDoc, the service that helps consumers find and book doctor appointments online, has completed a $3 million Series A round of financing led by Khosla Ventures, reports Earthtimes.

ZocDoc uses the Internet to help improve patient access to healthcare. Patients can see real-time availability of doctors in their area, find those that accept their insurance plan and read feedback from real patients.

Most importantly, patients can book an appointment, including same-day and next-day appointments, instantly online.

Intel is offering developers $100 000 in prizes for the most innovative ideas for using technology in improving education, healthcare, economic development, or the environment, says Information Week.

Craig Barrett, chairman of the chipmaker, told attendees at his opening keynote of the Intel Developer Forum, in San Francisco, that the company is offering four prizes of $100 000 each to help launch the winning ideas. "This isn't for your personal bank account," he said.

The winners of Intel's Inspire/Empower Challenge will be chosen based on the sustainability and innovativeness of the technology.
