Royal Philips acquires Alpha

Royal Philips Electronics, a global provider of healthcare, lifestyle and lighting products and solutions will acquire India-based Alpha X-Ray Technologies, for an undisclosed amount, states Business Standard.

Headquartered in Panvel, close to Mumbai, the privately held Alpha is a manufacturer of Cardiovascular X-Ray systems targeting the economy segment of the Indian market.

The transaction is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2008, and is subject to certain contractual and other conditions, the company said in a statement

Harris Corporation appoints VP

Harris Corporation has appointed Barclay Butler as the new VP of military healthcare for its healthcare solutions initiative, says CBR Online.

In this position, Butler will lead the company's initiatives focused on solving the IT healthcare challenges faced by military organisations, including research, technical product development, system delivery and service, and the application of new technologies.

Butler has expertise as a senior information management and technology professional in the military healthcare business community.

Norton Healthcare implements Sentillion

Norton Healthcare, Kentucky's largest healthcare system with more than 50 locations in and around Louisville, has gone live with Sentillion's Vergence solution for single sign-on (SSO), states Market Watch.

Norton is deploying Vergence to its approximately 9 700 information systems users throughout the organisation and unifying a wide variety of applications, including MediTech, McKesson PACS, Kronos and Lawson.

"Providing a secure single sign-on capability for our clinical and administrative workers delivers a huge productivity benefit, since most people routinely use between three and six applications," said Joseph DeVenuto, VP of information systems and CIO of Norton Healthcare.
