Neotel CFO suspended

Johannesburg, 19 Sep 2008

Neotel confirmed today that its CFO has been suspended, pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of improper conduct levelled against him.

However, the second national operator denied Aruna Gupta has resigned, as stated in other media reports this morning.

"The investigation is still ongoing and Gupta remains suspended until that is finalised," says Neotel PR manager Zinhle Modiselle.

She would not be drawn on the specifics of the investigation or the allegations. "That is not something that we can discuss publicly."

Modiselle also confirmed that principal executive officer Harjit Singh has been appointed acting CFO and has been handling all financial and supply chain issues.

She re-emphasised a statement by executive head for external affairs Wandile Zote, who dismissed rumours that the company was not signing cheques and settling its accounts, while speaking yesterday to Talk Radio 702.

"That is not true, we have an acting CFO and these matters have been attended to."

Modiselle could not say when the investigation would be concluded.
