World Bank initiative adopts ICT

Business Environment Strengthening and Technical Assistance Project (Bestap), a World Bank initiative aimed at removing bottlenecks to doing business in Malawi, says it would reduce the number of days taken to issue business with registration certificates by introducing ICT at the office of Registrar of Companies, according to The Daily Times.

Bestap indicates the development would reduce days for issuance of company certificates from 14 days to three, which in the long-term is likely to help improve the country's rating on the Cost of Doing Business Index.

Assistant registrar of companies Chifwayi Chirambo acknowledged in an interview that his office has been earmarked for computerisation as part of a review process to improve its service delivery capacity in issuing business certificates and data storage.

CA debuts cloud management

CA introduced its first integrated suite of enterprise IT management software products designed to manage cloud computing and the vagaries of efficient and cost-effective virtualisation at CA World, reports eWeek.

But CA didn't give the suite a specific name, instead referring to the new cloud management bundle as simply its "CA EITM solutions". EITM is an acronym for "enterprise IT management".

The data centre management software suite utilises CA's standard set of IT management, governance and security products, which cover virtualised and distributed computing, mainframes, storage, networking, and desktops.

AT&T goes to Georgia

AT&T has secured a five-year contract with the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) worth a projected $346 million, to provide managed WAN, voice, and LAN services across state government agencies, says Market Watch.

The extensive deployment of managed network services will establish a more robust and efficient network for Georgia's government operations, a centralised management model and standardised service levels across the state.

The AT&T solution will integrate new communications equipment, delivering more advanced communication capabilities for Georgia state officials and employees. From Internet access to voice calls, state government staff from various agencies will benefit directly from the more efficient and reliable communication capabilities provided by AT&T.
