New local boss for Lenovo

Johannesburg, 12 Dec 2008

Industry veteran Henry Ferreira will take over from Rashid Wally as regional GM at Lenovo SA.

After four years as Lenovo SA`s GM, and 30 years at IBM, Wally has decided to retire, come the end of April next year. Ferreira begins his term in the new year.

Ferreira previously held the position of director of enterprise and partner group for Microsoft SA. He has also acted as VP and MD of Unisys Africa, VP of networks in the EMEA region at Nokia, as well as VP for customer solutions at HP, in Ireland.

Ferreira is arguably best known for his position as HP SA`s country manager and MD of Compaq Africa.

"I have no doubt Henry will keep up the positive momentum we have achieved over the past four years, continuing to grow the business, as well as maintaining our longstanding customer and partner relationships," says Wally.

Prior to his leadership role at Lenovo, Wally had held numerous positions at IBM, both in SA and abroad. "I have to commend Rashid for the role he has played in establishing Lenovo SA as a leading local PC player and wish him well as he goes into retirement. It is an exciting time for me to take over the reins and grow the business even further."

According to the company, since Lenovo`s inception in May 2005, the South African division has experienced higher year-on-year growth compared with the average industry standard for the same period.

Wally and Ferreira will work together during the four months leading up to Wally`s last day. "I am happy to introduce him into the Lenovo family and assist him in the first four months of 2009, to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of the organisation," says Wally.
