HP releases SME storage offerings

HP is blitzing SMEs with SAN, direct-attached and unified shared storage product offerings and upgrading its own products, says The Register.

The StorageWorks X1000 storage system replaces HP's all-in-one low-end storage product. It combines network-attached storage and iSCSI SAN access, based on Windows Storage Server 2008 running on a quad-core Xeon processor. Models offer 12TB, 36TB or 96TB of Ethernet-connected capacity.

There is a gateway product, the X1800sb, with a single 146GB SAS drive, for c-class blade systems, which can also be combined with the SB40c storage blade for 1.8TB of internal storage.

Hitachi unveils storage software

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has introduced clustering software for its high-end Hitachi universal storage platform V (USP V) controller, reports TechWorld.

The Hitachi High Availability Manager software allows virtualised pools of storage being managed by the USP V to migrate between different vendors' storage systems without having to bring down applications or host servers.

Claus Mikkelsen, CTO of HDS' storage architectures, had attempted to build hype around the announcement by offering a clue as to what the product was a week ago in an anagram on his blog page. The anagram - Regrades our classy treat - stood for 'clustered storage arrays'.

Sun expands unified storage line-up

Sun has added a model to its line of unified storage systems, states vnunet.

The company hopes that the new 7310 system will add to the appeal of the unified storage line released late last year, which combines traditional storage systems with management tools.

The company claims the systems will allow for more stable and efficient storage systems, and let administrators more closely manage and analyse their storage hardware.
