JSE-listed Rectron, one of South Africa`s fastest growing computer components, PC and peripheral distributors, has ended its relationship with Creative Labs abruptly, citing defective products, poor service and patchy support as the cause of the rift.
"We have taken the decision to replace Creative Labs modems, CD-ROM drives optical disk drives and associated products, video and graphics cards, and Internet music devices within our portfolio," said CEO Mark Lu.
He says that Rectron has already taken steps to replace these items in its product portfolio or increase the emphasis on competitive brands.
"The market for many of the Creative products is fast moving and demanding. Poor quality and outdated technology - which, in our opinion, characterised many of the Creative products - have resulted in a negative marketplace perception of the brand," stressed Lu.
"It is our responsibility to react to the demands of our customers and channel partners and on occasion make sweeping changes to our catalogue to accommodate them."
Rectron has assured Creative products users that it will facilitate all warranty claims associated with products marketed through the Rectron channel and fully support the Creative brand from a technical perspective.
