Phoenix Software joins Parallels as exclusive South African distributor

Renton, Washington and Cape Town, 24 Aug 2007

Phoenix Software, one of the foremost software republishers, and Parallels, leading provider of innovative desktop and server virtualisation software for the Windows, Macintosh, and Linux communities, have finalised an agreement whereby Phoenix Software will serve as the exclusive distributor of Parallels Desktop for Mac, Parallels' market leading solution that enables users to run Windows, Linux, or any other x86 operating systems at the same time as Mac OS X.

Through the development of ground-breaking virtualisation solutions for both servers and workstations, Parallels is helping to alleviate the cost and headache associated with a traditional IT infrastructure.

Virtual IT infrastructures help corporates lower operating costs, improve user productivity, and maximise hardware value by reducing the total number of machines needed to complete critical tasks.

With fewer machines in operation, enterprises save time, energy costs, and can make more efficient use of physical space, existing hardware, and support team efforts. Parallels virtualisation technology is used by more than half a million people worldwide and is revolutionising the way people use computers.

"This is an exciting agreement for Phoenix Software," stated Simon Campbell-Young, CEO of Phoenix Software. "The availability of Parallels Desktop now allows enterprises and consumers to get the best of both worlds and run Windows on your Mac without the need to reboot.

"Parallels is a SWsoft company - the global leader in providing virtualisation and automation software. We are looking forward to expanding the success of Parallels with our appointment as distributor for Parallels Desktop for Mac 3.0 for RSA".

Parallels Desktop 3.0, which was released for general sale in June 2007, makes it possible to run Windows, Linux, and more side-by-side with Mac OS X on any Intel-powered Mac, without rebooting. With Parallels' award-winning virtualisation technology, Mac users can run Mac OS X and their favourite Windows applications at the same time and at blazing speeds.

Users can even drag-and-drop files between desktops, rung Windows applications like native Mac applications with Parallels innovative coherence technology, and open any file from either OS with any application with SmartSelect. The new release of Parallels Desktop for Mac comes packed with 50+ new features and enhancements, including enhanced support for XP and Vista, support for shared printers, OpenGL 1.5 / DirectX 8.1 support and much more.
