Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Ster-Kinekor have signed an agreement with PartServe Channel Support to do all its product warranties. The repair partner will now handle the exchange programme for all PlayStation consoles throughout southern Africa.

Ster-Kinekor logistic executive Robin Serebro says Sony and Ster-Kinekor have been looking for a service partner in southern Africa for a while. “We required a repair partner that was established in the local market and also one that is as stable as PartServe, and one that represents top brands.”

PartServe director Lee Bowes says his company was chosen by Sony and Ster-Kinekor because of its organic development in the past nine years. Bowes explains how this has enabled PartServe to control its growth and make sure focus is given to its vendors to deliver good warranty services to each one.

“We have been very successful in implementing similar warranty programmes for other large vendors such as Epson, Canon and Zebra,” he adds.

Work space

Bowes says PartServe is now establishing a dust-free repair environment and plans to build a laboratory for high-level repairs. PartServe states the total cost of the new facility, including equipment, infrastructure, dust-free environment and system development, amounted to more than R1 million rand.

“We have to build a secure facility like this to handle high-value and hi-tech products like PlayStation. We have planned that this facility will ultimately be able to handle 3 000 additional repairs per month, not necessarily just PlayStation, but other hi-tech products, such as notebooks and projectors as well,” says Bowes.

PartServe also has five physical locations that it operates from around the country - Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. As part of the agreement, PartServe will expand its Sony PlayStation repair skills throughout the southern African region.
