Mixed views of the Internet`s future
A group of technology leaders and scholars have offered both dire predictions and high hopes of the Internet`s future in a recent study conducted by Elon University and the Pew Internet & American Life Project.
Newsfactor.com reports that at least two-thirds of the experts predict at least one devastating attack on network information infrastructure or the US power grid in the next 10 years.
Fifty-nine percent of these authorities predict more government and business surveillance as computing devices are embedded in appliances, cars, phones and even clothing.
The survey reveals that we can expect more virtual classes in formal education with students grouped by interests and skills rather than by age.
They also believe the Internet will foment changes in family dynamics and a blurring of the boundaries between work and leisure, as telecommuting and home schooling expand.
Flash-based iPod on the way?
With the start of the annual Macworld Expo in the US only hours away, Mac-centric rumour sites are posting information on a flash memory-based iPod they are certain will be unveiled at the event.
eWeek.com reports that the new iPod, code-named Shuffle, will come with 1GB of memory and have an estimated retail price of $149.
Other rumours include the announcement of a faster Apple PowerBook that should reach speeds of 1.67GHz.
One of the more far-fetched rumours is that a third-party developer will introduce voice recognition to the iPod.
PSP to get GTA
Take-Two Interactive Software plans to launch a version of its Grand Theft Auto (GTA) video game franchise for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) device that will be released in the US in March.
GTA: San Andreas was one of the best-selling titles last year, reports Reuters.
Publisher Rockstar Games will distribute the new title that will be set in the fictional town of Liberty City.
It will also release the racing game Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition for the PSP.
