The Battlefield (BF) 2142 PC gaming tournament, being organised by the Amateur Gaming Association of SA (Agasa) and Electronic Arts (EA), is hotting up, with as many as eight clans (teams) having a chance of reaching the semi-finals on 20 November.

The winning team will win a trip to Taipei to compete in an international BF 2142 competition.

Johann von Backstr"om, Agasa founder, says after 40 games only the Advanced Special Forces clan has kept a clean sheet, with 16 points after eight games. After that are three clans on 12 points, with a host of clans not far behind.

"Despite the clans only receiving the newly released BF 2142 game a few weeks ago, the competition is fierce and the places in the semi-finals are by no means secured," he says.

In addition, while the winning team flies off to Taipei, clan members in second place will each receive Creative's new sound card, the X-Fi Fatal1ty from Rectron. Third placed clan members receive Creative's HS-600 headsets and the Fatal1ty 1010, the new laser mouse developed with Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, a world champion in PC gaming.

The semi-finals will be held on 20 November and the finals on 21 November, Von Backstr"om says.

If the winning clan resides outside Gauteng, they will be flown to Johannesburg. The team will then be flown courtesy of EA to the knock-out tournament in Taipei, which will take place on 2 December, where they will compete head-on with teams from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.
