Hackers promise month of MySpace bugs

Two hackers, going by the names of Mondo Armando and M"ustaschio, have promised to begin disclosing security vulnerabilities in MySpace, News Corp's popular social networking site, every day next month, reports PCWorld.

"The purpose of the exercise is not so much to expose MySpace as a hive of spam and villainy, but to highlight the monoculture-style danger of extremely popular Web sites," said Mondo Armando.

"We could have just as easily gone after Google or Yahoo or MSN or IDG or whatever. MySpace is just more fun, and is becoming notoriously [obnoxious] about responding to security issues," he said.

Google phone in pipeline

Google is developing its own mobile phone, according to industry insiders. A Google official last week acknowledged the company was "investigating" such a project, reports News.com.

Google has refused to comment directly on leaks from Europe and the US, which describe a low-cost, Internet-connected phone with a colour, wide-screen design.

Newspaper and blog reports in recent months have Google shopping its phone design to potential mobile phone manufacturing partners in Asia.

Wii thrashes Xbox 360, PS3

Nintendo's Wii games console is giving Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) a solid hiding in US sales, according to a report released on Friday by the NPD Group, reports CoolTech.

Wii sales nearly matched the combined sales for the Xbox 360 and PS3 during February.

Nintendo sold 335 000 Wii consoles, while Microsoft moved 228 000 consoles, with the PS3 lagging with only 127 000 consoles sold. Nintendo also sold 485 000 DS handheld consoles during February.

Adobe offers early peek at Apollo

Adobe Systems will release an early version of Apollo software that will allow Web applications to be run online and offline, reports ZDNet.

The first release is an "alpha" version, with a beta due sometime this summer. Version 1.0 is planned for the second half of this year.

The early version of Apollo is aimed primarily at Web designers and programmers. The free download will include a software development kit and the "runtime" software for running Apollo applications.
