McAfee Adds Support

Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2007

McAfee has announced its SiteAdvisor Plus now supports Firefox, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and AOL mail. It claims SiteAdvisor Plus is the first Web safety tool to actively shield consumers' computers from dangerous Web sites encountered when browsing, searching, instant messaging or e-mailing,

According to Chris van Niekerk at McAfee, this tool takes McAfee SiteAdvisor from a guide to an active enforcer of SiteAdvisor's safety ratings. The new "Protected Mode" prevents users from browsing to risky sites. "Link Checker" extends the product's ratings by checking links in e-mail and instant messages.

He says McAfee SiteAdvisor Plus also includes adding advanced phishing site detection. Consumers may use this product to complement their existing McAfee products, with non-McAfee security products, or as a stand-alone solution.

The company says it now supports both Internet Explorer and Firefox, as well as a broad range of instant messaging and e-mail platforms including AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger (Y!M), Windows Live Messenger (MSM), Google Talk, Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, Microsoft Live Mail (Hotmail) and Gmail.

"McAfee SiteAdvisor gives online consumers more than 285 million individual site ratings every day," adds van Niekerk. "Adding support for AIM, AOL Mail and Firefox to SiteAdvisor Plus extends the premium product's reach to users of these popular e-mail, instant messaging and browser applications."

McAfee is a pioneer of safe search technology and protects Internet users from adware, spam, viruses and other online dangers says van Niekerk. SiteAdvisor's software adds intuitive red, yellow, or green ratings to sites and search results based on proprietary tests of more than 95% of the trafficked Web.
