AMD's Athlon 64 dual-core 6000+ business booster

Johannesburg, 17 May 2007

The AMD Athlon 64-bit dual-core 6000+ processor for desktops is now available to the local market through Annex Distribution. This technology is said to result in an 80% improvement in PC performance.

This architecture is built with dual-core processors. These contain two processing cores that enable calculation on two streams of data and thereby ensure speed and efficiency while running multiple programs.

"We are please to bring to the market architecture that empowers users to extract the maximum benefit from their technology," comments Wayne Britz, director at Annex Distribution.

"Businesses and individuals continue to run sophisticated, multi-media applications that demand system performance. This, coupled with the advances in software programs, security systems and the ability to add multi-functional peripheral devices, requires solid processing technology," he continues.

As part of AMD's extensive family of processors, the AMD Athlon 64-bit dual-core 6000+ incorporates several distinct, established features including: AMD64 Technology; Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP); HyperTransport technology and Cool 'n' Quiet.

"The benefits associated with these features include an increase in speed between integrated circuits in computers, reduction in bottlenecks due to fewer buses, lower power consumption, enhanced security and a reduction in heat output. All of these aspects result in a generally faster, more effective operation and improved computing experience," says Britz.

The AMD Athlon 64-bit dual-core 6000+ also offers chip-based 'virtualisation' that allows for a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines.

"A combination of 64-bit and dual-core technology makes this product attractive to a variety of users, including those within the gaming and multi-media environments. Aside from taking advantage of multi-threaded PC software, the user is given the benefit of an integrated memory controller to reduce memory access latencies," adds Britz.
